The Maryland Powerlifting Report 7/1/08

Thanks!

With the 100% RAW National Bench Press, Deadlift & Strict Curl behind me (I'm still moving stuff!), hopefully, I can get back to the business of this site and training.

Before I move forward with the Maryland Powerlifting Report, I want to thank everyone who came out to the meet. The lifters, the spectators and those who helped with the meet. It was perhaps the best meet from a competitive standpoint that I'd seen. And that was due to the excellent judging of lifts from several of our own; Matt Gary, Mike Sichelman and Brian Washington. And John "Mogie" Mogavero did an awesome job announcing and keeping every one's interest on the meet. And, Kevin Prosser and "Big" Dan Corridean helped spot load. Dan served as a spotter as well as benched and deadlifted. He is huge! The meet moved along at a great pace and was a great success. I cannot thank you guys enough! Maryland Powerlifting was well represented.

Jim

It will all begin in the Palmetto State of South Carolina in 2009. Our plan is a very good one. Strategic alliances are in place with the right people who can make this plan very sucessful.

We are going to need help, a lot of help, with this massive project to build the sport of Powerlifting. Most importantly, we we need AAU District Directors. We need creative, concerned and success driven District Directors who can represent their AAU District in a very positive and productive manner. 100% RAW News:

From the President- In a note to members, Paul Bossi sends the following (dated 6/27/08);

Dear Lifters,
I hope you are all enjoying your summer. We have been extremely busy this year with the growth of 100% RAW across the country. This weekend we will be in Annapolis, MD for the Single Lift Nationals. If you live within this area you might want to come to watch some terrific lifting. Some of the highlights this weekend will be:

1. Rock Lewis going for the ALL-TIME highest 242 RAW Bench 615 lbs.
2. Big Dan Coridean going for an 800 lb deadlift in the 275 class.
3. 15 year sensation Denvel Sutton going for his 600 lb deadlift.
4. Mike Binkley going for a 400 lb bench in the 165 class.
5. Jim Patterson with his assault on 500 in the 220's.
6. Pat McMillian going for the National police/fire/Military deadlift record with a 625 lb pull.
7 And other great 100% RAW like Tim Henriques, John Shifflett, Bob Dahlhammer, Scott Russell and many more great lifters from 17 different states.

The Nationals Full Powerlifting Nationals will be July 12 in Reno, Nevada. The deadline will be extended 1 more week because of an error on my part. I just found out I had a typo on my zip code. My mailing zip code is 27921 and the entry form has 27821 which is wrong and may cause lifters forms to be returned. Please call me if you form was returned or your form will be late after the deadline date. We have plenty of room for more lifters so please spread the word to the lifters who live on the West Coast. You will be able to set the state record for your state as well as break the National and World records all in one meet. There will also be a bench only meet. The West Coast Bench Press will run during this event so for all you bench specialists come on out and break some records and get the west on the record books.

The Arizona State Championships will be on August 2 in Prescott, AZ. Paul Gillott is the meet director and chairman for this 1st ever event in Arizona. He sent me an e-mail letting me know he has 30 lifters already more than a month out. He is expecting 60-70 lifters which will be an incredible event. If you live within driving distance you will want to make this meet. I am going to try to be there to assist him providing my schedule will make room for me to do so.

100% RAW has some nice new apparel for sale. We will have them on the website for sale very soon within the next week we hope. We have 100% RAW Mesh shorts in (Blue, Red, Black) sizes. We also have a few nice shirts and will have combo specials on the website soon.

There record plaques and ranking certificate plaques will all be posted soon on the website for all lifters to purchase. There is a form on there to fill out and e-mail back with your info. We will have a new number system to make ordering easier.

100% RAW will be accepting credit cards very soon. We will be setting up a PayPal account soon and we will be all credit cards for apparel, plaques, membership and entries in any meet. We hope to have this up and running within a week or so.

The curl records as you have known them have been retired. They will stay on the website for ever but will say retired. We have started new records from all the meets that used the strict curl with the lifters buttocks and shoulders against the wall. This was something we have spoke about for a while and have decided the only fair way to do this was to retired them and keep them posted for the guys who worked hard to earn those records.

I know there has been a tremendous amount of e-mails in regards to the state records not being updated. Our records chairman has been overwhelmed with the number of events we have had this year and keeping up has been tough. Please bare with him as he works very hard to get these done. If you are waiting to order a record plaque and the state record are not updated just send me an e-mail and I will verify the record so you can order your plaque.

Our rankings will be done any day now. Our Rankings chairman has updated them through June and has sent them to our webmaster to update the site. The webmaster has let me know the will be done very soon.

I will be attaching the summer schedule for 100% RAW to this e-mail below. Check the site for updates daily and please visit our forum. Our forum is free for anyone, you just need to go through the sign up process which will take 1 minute and it is free.

Alan sends the following training of Maryland powerlifter, Andrew Cohn (note; Andrew is sponsored by APT); USAPL Raw Nats Training

Andrew posts the following comments (6/25/08);

Here is a vid of my training for the last two weeks leading up to the Raw Nationals in St. Louis.

I am doing the Gillingham 12 week bench program and that has been working incredibly. I hit 2 pretty big Bench PR's in this video.

I am also doing a training regimen that I designed myself for squats and deadlifts. Hopefully that will work out well too. I like it so far and I feel better and better with it every week. Here is the vid:

5 more weeks of training!
