The Maryland Powerlifting Report 5/29/08

The Purposeful Primitive; From Fat and Flacid to Lean and Powerful
by Marty Gallagher

I received my advanced copy of Marty's new book last Friday and have been reading at a feverish pace to get it read by the end of this week. I don't think it will be hard to do because it is hard to lay it down. Once again, Marty has written a great book which if used, will be a guide to success for all who lift competitively or, simply wish to transform their body.

The projected release date is sometime the middle of this summer. I will write more, in terms of a review, in the coming weeks.

Review- USAPL PA State BP/DL Championships from Niko Hulslander;

Whew! Finally got a chance to sit down and write up a small report on the meet. 76 lifters registered to do battle this year. We had 5 lifters withdraw due to injury at the last moment. I wish them well and a speedy recovery. Two Powerhouse High Schools came to show what our future looks like for PA Power. Penn Ridge High School from Perkasie, PA edged out the Olympians from Jim Thorpe High School. Garage Ink was able to come away with 3rd place in the team standings. Outstanding perfomances were turned in by so many lifters. We had quite a few first timers and we had some elite lifters come and show off for the crowd. Beverly Crawford, just 15 years old, walked away with the Best Female Bencher and Deadlifter. Dominc Ambrassano was able to get the lightweight Male bencher, and Pete Grohoski; w/ a huge 523 bench @ 198 won the Male Heavyweight Bencher. In the deadlift, one of the Founding Fathers of the ADFPA, Nick Theodorou showcased his Deadlift prowess and pulled 545 @ 165 and as a Master lifter!!!! Kyle Shearer, pulled a nice 601 RAW to win the Heavyweight Best Deadlifter. Best Lifter& Team awards were provided by Skullptures By Seeker; from Warren, PA. Carl Seeker provided some of the coolest awards I have ever given out. The Best Lifter awards were swords for the bench and battle axes for the deadlift!!! I heard alot of cool stuff about these! I actually "Knighted" each bencher as they came up for their award!!! The DJ, Merle Weigel, did an AWESOME job, keeping us pumped up all day! So many thank you's to send out. The set up Friday night just took 1 hour and 45 minutes!!!! Yes, that is right, all those who helped that night....WOW, awesome job! My Judges, CiCi Smith, Rebekah Lair, Rick Davis, Jim Roberts, Ryan Lair, and Tim Meckley...fantastic job!!! My spotters and loaders; Reggie Dawson, Shawn Bostwick, and Dan Ratchford. Also, the head table staff of Steve Mann, Mike Cagliola, and Tony Forella kept it all running smoothly. My set up and tear down crew of Scott Wright, Cheryl Gibson, Wayne Gibson, Jim Roberts, Merle Weigel, Mark Martin, Laura Scheach, Jackie, and My wife, Dyan....Thank you all so much!!! I hope you all had fun, I know I sure did. Thank you to all the lifters, you guys and gals were awesome! The results can be found at www.purepowerlifting.com

Take care and see you all soon!

Niko

Me and my crew will be there and we are bringing along the monolift and bench as well. We should have a team of at least 7. Hope to see quite a few turnout for this so there is some competition to push all to big numbers!
