The Maryland Powerlifting Report 4/10/08

Lifter News:

Jeff Lewis- Update from Brad Madvig (Webmaster);

I got an update from Jeff Lewis. He says thanks for the fund raiser and the money is being put to good use with medical bills starting to roll in. He is walking 1000 ft a day and has gotten his knees to bend to a 30 degree angle.

He ended the note with the message 'Ill be back'

Sean Siggins- Garage Ink team member, Sean Siggins, is featured in an article published in the York Daily Record;

Standing on a platform in front of hundreds of screaming spectators, Sean Siggins bent his knees, flattened his back and tightened his grip on the bar in front of him.

In one fluid motion, he straightened his legs and back, hauling the bar up to about mid-thigh and held it there.

A 507-pound deadlift, a personal record for him.

It was Siggins' last lift in the USA Powerlifting Police and Fire Nationals on March 29 in Scranton.

An officer with Southern Regional Police who runs the department's K-9 unit, Siggins' numbers in three events -- squat, bench press and deadlift -- garnered him second place.

As the weight thudded to the platform, Siggins, 6-foot-2 and 260 pounds, bounded off the stage and leapt into the arms of coach Dennis "Niko" Hulslander.

Good thing Hulslander is 6-foot and 320 pounds.

Siggins, 34, and Hulslander, 36, have known each other for years, since when Hulslander used to be a deputy with the York County Sheriff's Office. But about a year ago, the two realized they were neighbors when Siggins moved from Jacobus to Stewartstown.

That's when Hulslander approached Siggins and said, "See you Monday, you're on the team," Siggins said.
