Raw Unity:

Eric Talmant has posted qualifying totals for the 2009 Raw Unity Meet:

Hello lifters. Below you will find the qualifying totals for the 2009 Raw Unity Meet Championships which will once again be held in New Port Richey (30 min north of Tampa), Florida, on January 24-25. This total can be done in a sanctioned or unsanctioned meet, but it has to be done raw according to that federations (if applicable) or that meets rules. For example, I understand that the APA allows monolifts and knee wraps in their raw division and that 100% Raw does not, but this meet is about uniting powerlifters and as such I feel that this is the best way to do it. Please be aware, however, that the Raw Unity Meet itself will only allow neoprene knee sleeves (USAPL lifters take note-the Inzer knee “sleeves” will not be allowed), wrist wraps, and the rules of performance of the lifts will be the same as this year’s competition and can be found at the web site at Raw Unity Meet.

If you competed in the 2008 Raw Unity Meet then you are automatically invited back for the 2009 Raw Unity Meet Championships.

If you are a top single or multi-ply lifter and would like to be considered for the Raw Unity Meet please submit a lifter resume to
Eric .

If there is any other questions please contact me at my yahoo address or through the Raw Unity Meet web site. Thank you for your time and train hard!

APF News:

The WPC World's will be held November 20-23 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Amy Jackson (Administrator) with the announcement:

This year the Worlds will be held November 20-23 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida at the beautiful Mariott Hotel. The airport is West Palm Beach International and is actually (at this time) cheaper to fly into than Vegas, that is from Chicago. The room rates are $129. The location is near plenty of shopping, restaurants, theaters, museums, entertainment and not to forgot the beaches.

In deciding the location we did consider Vegas; however things aren't what they use to be. Venues in Vegas have gone up considerably and it is difficult to use rooms as a bartering chip since everyone looks for the best deal regardless of venue hotel. We are seriously considering it for next years Senior Nationals if we can find a venue.

A date and location had to be locked in for Worlds due to the fact that countries will need ample time for passport and visa requirements and the location of Florida is what was voted at the AGM.

This will be a top notch first class event and I look forward to it.

The APF adopts raw.

In a second announcement, Amy Jackson states:

The APF-AAPF has adopted the Raw division which will consist of a singlet and belt only. Records will be kept in both APF and AAPF in all categories.

It is the meet promoters choice whether they choose to add this division to their meets.

From Critical Bench: Interview With Awe-Inspiring Bench Presser Rock Lewis
Interviewed By Ben Tatar of CriticalBench.com - March 2008

1) CRITICAL BENCH: It's Ben Tatar from Critical Bench and I am here with a RAW legend in the sport of bench pressing, Rock Lewis. Rock, how did you get started in the sport of benching?

Rock: My cousin, King McDuffy started me. He had about a 600lbs bench. I started when I was in the military and everyone thought I was strong. I took it from there.

2) CRITICAL BENCH: Rock, you bench pressed 495 for three reps raw with your feet up on the bench the same day you benched 600lbs. How many reps can you do with 495 fresh with your feet down?

I can bench press 495lbs for 8 reps with my feet down. The other day I bench pressed 495 for 6 reps with my legs crossed.

3) CRITICAL BENCH: That is totally insane. Do you usually bench with your feet up or down?

Rock: I bench with my feet up and with my legs crossed.

Rock Lewis 560 Opener - No Hand-off!

4) CRITICAL BENCH: What is the most weight you have ever bench pressed with your legs crossed before?

Rock: I've done 620 with my legs crossed.

5) CRITICAL BENCH: Oh My God! Ha-Ha! Rock, why do you always train with your feet up on the bench?

Rock: It gives me better upper body control. It takes much more upper body control to bench with your feet up which allows me to get stronger and ultimately bench press more.

6) CRITICAL BENCH: Rock, how did you get so good at unracking your own weight like you did with 560 at the 100% RAW Nationals?

Rock: I do everything by myself. I don't need a bench shirt, spotters or anything else. It's all me.

7) CRITICAL BENCH: You are one of the most naturally strong freaks this Earth has ever seen, no doubt about that. Rock, do you ever intend to compete with gear?

Rock: I do. I would like to compete with gear after I become the first heavy weight bencher to triple his body weight drug free and then I want to go to gear…

Chapman's:
As some are aware, I slipped on a patch of ice last December. A month later, I learned that I had fractured my fibia. While the doctors did not place me in a cast or take any other action, except to give me a brace, I was told due to the extent of the sprain (soft tissue), I would experience pain for several months to come. Not to be deterred by the pain, I continued with my training, minus squatting. Having read my story of woe, a good friend introduced me to Chapman's.

I have been using Chapman's Horse Liniment ("for man or beast") to manage the pain for a little over a month. It has been very effective in both healing and pain management. And I have been able to squat with just a minor amount of discomfort. So therefore, I have included a link here on at Maryland Powerlifting. I would encourage all to give it a try!
