The Maryland Powerlifting Report 1/21/08
RAW United should not be confused with Raw Unity.
Despite the disclaimer on their website, this organization promotes meets, has its own set of rules and records, a website to help promote its mission and has a schedule of meets where 100% RAW is also participating. Recently, Paul Bossi has come out in support of one of its stated goals of holding a unified raw national championships. You be the judge; click here. Discuss here.
Conversely, Raw Unity will now be a once a year event where the best in the country/world can come together and compete to be recognized as the national champion. It is promoted by its founder, Eric Talmant.
Like 100% RAW, RAW United was founded by former Marylander, Spero Tshontikidis.

2008 WPO Three Lift Finals will “NOT” be occurring of the LA Fit-Expo in LA. This discussion is very regrettable and every effort was taken and made to bring the “numbers/metrics” together for a successful meet and experience for the lifter. The New date will be announced and is rescheduled with the 2008 WPC Championships in Florida. For those lifters that are in training cycle we offer this alternative, there is an APF Championship being held on February 16 in Phoenix, Arizona. The contact is JR Bolger at 602-820-3497. The Scot Mendelson Bench Competition WILL be held at the LA Fit-Expo.

We have 59 registered clubs, held 136 sanctioned meets.

USPF News:
Qualifying Totals- Steve Denison posted the following message concerning qualifying totals to enter the Nationals:
There are no qualifying totals for Nationals. If you've competed in a USPF meet in the last couple of years then you are good to go. If you haven't competed in the USPF I would encourage you to find a meet in your area and lift in it. You just need a total. Not a qualifying total. Other single ply feds will be ok if you don't have a USPF meet in your area.
Lifting in a USPF meet will enable new lifters to be fully aware of USPF rules prior to stepping onto the USPF National platform. There isn't normally any rules briefing at Nationals because we expect lifters to know the rules and what to expect.
note; opinions expressed in articles written by others and posted here on Maryland Powerlifting does not necessarily reflect those of Maryland Powerlifting.
