The IPF World's: Wrap-up
Simply, the story line is the return of the Russian and Ukrainian Powerlifting Federations. While the Russians (Results) seemed to dominate, the U.S. team hung in and competed to strong finishes. The Women' (Women's results) finished 4th in team points behind Russia (1st- perfect team score of 72 point), Chinese Taipei (2nd) and Ukraine (3rd). The Men (Men's results) finished 2nd to the Russians who finished with a perfect 72 team points.

Notable in this competition was a very controversial decision by the jury to overturn the referees call on Domarrio "Doc" Holloway third deadlift attempt. Holloway was turned down by the referees on the first two attempts and earned whites for his third. The jury, based on protests from two coaches, overturned the decision, therefore causing Holloway to bomb on his last attempt.

Gold medalist for the U.S. included; Tony Cardella (Men's 125 kg).

Silver medalist included; Jessica O'Donnell (Women's 90+ kg), Wade Hooper (Men's 75 kg) and Brad Gillingham (125+ kg).

Bronze medalist included; Priscilla Ribic (Women's 67.5 kg), Liane Blyn (Women's 82.5 kg) and David Ricks (Men's 82.5).

Our champion, Sioux-z Hartwig-Gary finished 5th in the Women's 52 kg.

At the meting of the IPF Congress (minutes), outgoing President Norbert Wallauch, made his final speech as president which high lighted many advancements made under his two-term administration while expressing frustration with what he felt was a lack of enough support for him to serve another term and complete the work in progress. He pointed to some who seem significantly influenced by equipment manufactures and others who felt that his age diminished his ability to lead effectively. He closed his speech by reassuring all that he will continue to
"pursue what is going on in Powerlifting."

USPF News:
Courtney Stanley announced that the new web site and forum is now up and running (click here)

Courtney Stanley lists notable differences between WPF and USPF rules for World Team members:

Please Take the time top read the WPF Rules of Performance carefully !
LINK: http://wpfpowerlifting.com/
Some notable differences between the USPF and WPF are:
SQUAT : Elbow wraps are permitted
Spotter/Loaders can help you unrack the weight
BENCH : NO START COMMAND !! Don't waste precious energy waiting for this command!
There is a PRESS COMMAND !!
DEADLIFT : There MAY not be a dedicated deadlift bar.
EQUIPMENT : Long Legged briefs are legal ( Top can only extend to the Navel) Titan dual Quads wii have to be cut at the top (Too high)
Predators are NOT LEGAL ( 2-ply and TOO high!! ) Inzer Powerpants {legal if they don't extend too low or too high) Elbow wraps are legal for the squat.
2.5 Meter knee wraps and 1 Meter wrist wraps are legal. Complete approved eqipment list is available on the Main USPF website

Remember that standard 20kg Bars MAY be used for the ENTIRE MEET!! Special Deadlift Bars and 32mm Squat Bars ARE LEGAL but may not be supplied by the meet Director. Squatting with a 20kg Bar is certainly exciting at the heavier weights due to Bar "WHIP". So I would suggest taking some reps with this Bar !!

The 2007 WPF World Powerlifting Championships will be held November 22-15 in Torreon, Mexico.
