USAPL NGB Notes

Newly elected EC member, Eliot Feldman has posted the following notes taken from the USAPL NGB meeting which was held on July 13th in concjunction with the USAPL Men's Nationals in St. Louis:

This years meeting was quick and to the point. Well, as quick and to the point as the democratic process allows. The meeting did not become bogged down or fixated on inocuous points.
Here is a quick run down of business transacted at the NGB meeting:

1) A by-law amendment was passed making State Chairs at two year office.
2) Motions to change the requirements to take National and IPF referees tests were defeated.
3) Motion to disallow Technical Secretary from coaching was not passed.
4) Doping Control personnel for National events will be appointed by the Drug Committee.
5) Motion to reintroduce qualifying totals to the Men's World team did not pass.
6) Raw Nationals was established and Harold Gaines was given the first meet to be held in 2008. Harold did a great job with Men's this year.
7) A committee was established to develop design standards for National platforms.
8) Men's and Women's Nationals can now be used as a qualifier to be an alternate on the Open Bench team. The three year Carpino formula will be used to determine the alternate pool.
9) The USAPL definition of Raw has been changed to eliminate knee wraps while allowing belt, wrist wraps and knee sleeves.

Elections:
Vice President- Johnny Graham was reelected to thunderous applause.
Executive Committee- Lance Slaughter and Eliot Feldman
Brother Bennet Award- Rick Fowler
Coach of the Year- Dr. Larry Maile
Referee of the Year- George Bartotti

Teen/Junior Nationals was combined with Men's Nationals to commence in 2008 with Johnny Graham hosting the inaugural meet in Killeen, Texas.

Steve Mann will host the 2008 Police and Fire Nationals. Steve is also hosting the American Open in December 2007. The meet will be amazing. Many top USAPL/IPF lifters will be competing. Elite lifters will compete as guests and as always, each and every Open Class winner gets an automatic bid to Nationals. This meet has become an important part of the USAPL calender since being reestablished in 2002 by Robert Keller.

2009 Deadlift & Push/Pull Nationals was awarded to Robert Keller in Miami.
2009 Bench Press Nationals was awarded to Gary Kanaga in Cleveland.
2009 Teen/Junior/Open Men's Championships will be held in Denver by Dan Gaudreau

In closing, I would like to thank the members of the National Governing Body for entrusting me with the opportunity to once again serve the USAPL community. I am both humbled and honored to be given the chance. I will continue to work tirelessly to move the USAPL forward.
