News Letter-Mid Week Edition 7/12/07

I think I'll start off with a tragic story which was brought to the attention of readers by Brad Madvig at the "Original-Unofficial" USAPL forum. A 16 year old died when a 240 lb barbell fell on his throat. The boy's father found his son's lifeless body on the weight bench. The father stated that his son was told to reduce the amount of weight he lifted when lifting alone. Wrong answer!!!

Never lift alone! Always make sure that there is someone near or you use safety devices such as power racks or safety stands for the bench. And still, those devices are not fail-safe. As experienced lifters, we can tend to be a bit over confident. Please make wise decisions. And when your teaching/training someone new, please make them aware of this basic rule.

We're on the eve of the USAPL National Championships (more information below) and the annual NGB meeting. It is at these meetings that elections are held and votes made to decide changes in how the federation operates. This year, one important item of note is raw lifting and how it will be defined. Once I hear of any information, I will pass it along here on the news letter.

Finally, Eric Talmant is proposing to hold a "Raw Unity Meet." Eric is an EliteFts sponsored Athlete and has submitted a proposal that would bring some of the top lifters in the sport together to compete raw. He has also provided a list of names which includes a few lifters from Maryland. If your interested in reading more, go to Powerlifting Watch.

1) Please send your amendments according IPF-Con. 7.3.6.3 latest 15. August 2007. Please keep in mind, that at this Congress the Constitution and By-Laws can not be changed, except if the Congress decides about amendments with a 2/3-majority. At this Congress in Austria election of IPF officials and Committee Chairmen take place. Please forward your candidates to the General Secretary latest 15. August 2007.- Detlev Albrings
2) Referee registration for 2008-2011 is due by January 1, 2008
Note from Robert Keller; As a kind and gentle reminder, if you're an international referee, in order for you to renew your IPF Category I and II credentials, referees are required to have at the minimum, at least four [4] National or International Powerlifting Championships between 2004 - 2007. Please contact either Bill Clayton or myself, if you have any questions regarding re-certification of your credentials. Bill and I would like to have all of the applications to the referee registrar by October 01, 2007
