News Letter 6/11/07

Around the State:
At Powerlifting Watch- I submitted an article which reviews the recently competed ADAU Nationals. Along with it, I made the following comment:

As noted in my article, there was some great battles for first place and some incredible individual efforts. Bugs Boyer competing in the 198 Open and Masters at the age of 61 put on an incrdilbe dsiplay while outdistancing the rest of the 198'ers. If my memory is correct, Bugs went 8 for 9.

In the 220's, the battle came down between Ben Boyer and a very light Ryan Masey. Ben lifted without a belt! Ryan injured his hip during the squats and his continuing with the deadlifts became questionable. After warming up, Ryan took it one attempt at a time and still managed to pull 600lbs. Had Ryan dieted down to his usual 198, he would have dominated the rest of the field there. I look for Ryan to "grow into" his new found weight class and we will see even bigger numbers from him. Ruthven Roy..., I think was competing in his first meet, got the hang of things as the meet progressed and for a tall 51 year old, will soon be putting up some better numbers in the near future.

"Big" Dan Corridean had a bit of trouble with the deadlift having switched from conventional to sumo. He missed his opener and perhaps took a lighter second attempt than what was originally planned. Still, he managed a 1785 total in the 319 weight class.

There were some very "promising" teens and juniors who competed. I look for bigger and better for them and the ADAU as this federation grows.

Congrats once again to all!

Maryland USAPL to Keep Raw Records-In a e-mail this past weekend, Mark Daniel (USAPL/MSPA Maryland State Chairman) has requested that Will Slade, web master for Marylandpowerlifting.com, set up a page to keep records of lifts competed raw/unequipped.

More to come...,
