News Letter 5/7/07
2007 USAPL Master's Nationals: Congratulations to Mike Sichelman on his performance at the meet this past weekend. It is always great to get out to meets. It is especially gratifying when I get to see Maryland lifters on the platform. While Mike may not have achieved his goals, he was near perfect on 6 of the 9 lifts he made as he received all whites on all but one of his successful attempts when he received one red for moving his foot (?) during his opening attempt on the bench.
I would also like to thank our hosts and congratulate the USAPL and the promoters of this years' Master's Nationals. Though I only stayed until Saturday morning, I had a great time.
We need more Cathy's: And at the Master's Nationals, Mike and I met Cathy. Cathy seemed to be tasked with overseeing the warm-up room. And she did a GREAT job too. She made sure that each lifter knew when their next attempt was approaching. She voiced encouragement to the lifters both before and after each attempt. She was attentive in ensuring that equipment was donned properly and assited some of the lifters with getting their bench shirts on. Cathy's attentiveness in the warm-up room certainly attributed to ensuring that the meet ran well and the experience for the lifters was a positive one. Thank you Cathy!!!
From Matt McCase (USPF): I know everyone remembers SemmerFest last year, what a blast that was. Well this year its going to be even better. I have scheduled that event for June 3rd in Fairmont WV at Wavetech Park. They have a wavepool there for the kids and a bunch of other stuff as well.
This event is one of my funnest throughout the year. As you all know by now everything I do is for the lifter. Make sure you make every effort to come to this event I want to make sure you have your best event at my show. After this event we will all be getting ready to go to Nationals in Las Vegas wish us luk and I hope to see you all soon. Go to www.uspf.com for more info on this meet.

Turbulance remains in the wake of the break-up of the APF/WPO/WPC and the founding of the UPA. To summerize the latest news; the UPA continues to add members, state representatives and board members. There has been no official word from the APF concerning the status of scheduled meets. There are three meets scheduled on the UPA website.
Equipment debate in the USPF: A debate began between California state chairman Steve Denison and West Virginia state chairman Courtney Stanley at the USPF message board concerning the type of racks to be used at the upcoming USPF Nationals and then carried over to Powerlifting Watch where things seemed to get a bit tense between the two state chairmen. Steve is co-promoting the 2007 USPF Senior National Powerlifting/Bench Press/Deadlift Championships in Los Vegas, NV, August 11th & 12th with Matt McCase. Steve's plan is to use ER racks on both the lifting platform and the warm-up room. ER racks were reportedly critizised for their lack of sturdiness after their recent use at the World Series of Powerlifting. Nick Busick promoted that meet in Los Vegas last March at the same venue, Binion's, where the upcoming Nationals are to be held.
