In the Technical Committee Newsletter No 2, IPF Technical Committee Chairman John Stephenson attempts to bring clarity to the bench press rules, which went into effect January 1, with a series of questions and answers. He talks about bench "safety racks" in which he states; "Now that attached bench stands have become mandatory since 1-1-07 the committee feel that they should be considered part of the racks and need "IPF Approval" - Only Bench racks from commercial manufacturers officially registered and approved by the Technical Committee shall be permitted for use in International Powerlifting Championships." Having made observations at the 2006 World Championships, Mr. Stephenson seems favorable in using "video evidence" during disputed calls at international meets. He states, "the expense, and facilities involved, to be borne by the Meet Director may make this technology unaffordable at lesser meets. It's would considering for Internationals!" He also offer guidance for bars (standard markings) allowed in 2008 competitions, jury (overturning decisions) and defines the responsibilities of a Technical Officer. In discussing matters concerning the future of bench shirts; "There is little to be said that cannot be gathered from the IPF Home Page. www.powerlifting-ipf.com
Basically, all shirts currently approved will remain so (subject to the payment of licensing fees) up until and including the 31st December 2008. There is no suggestion that the shirt will become extinct, but from this date, the material must conform to the parameters of stretchability as laid down in the graph. Note:-It is comforting to know that the finding by laboratory testing and scientific analysis proved that all material passed by the Technical Committee met with the criteria as laid down in the IPF Techncial Rules - One /Ply Cotton or Polyester and stretch (if somewhat limited in some)." In his last topic, he discusses the Commonwealth Championships 2007.
National Doping Report 2006. IPF-Anti-Doping rules 14.2 "All nations must report annual national doping results to the IPF General Secretary not later than 31 March the following year". Only analyses can be considered, which were done in WADA accredited laboratory.

USAPL News:
Paul Fletcher (Meet Director) provides an update for the upcoming Women's Nationals that is scheduled for February 16-18 in Baton Rouge, LA. He describes various features that will be found at the meet site and addresses a number of important points that each should consider if they plan to attend or compete:
1)The hotel (information) is now at 330 room nights over the entire event. The hotel will very likely max out this week. The room block will lift and open to anyone on a first-come-first-serve basis (and Mardi Gras is expected to bring in a crowd to this area that weekend). The special room rate of $89.00 plus tax will lift this week and the regular rate of $139.00 may be applied. Please reserve your rooms. You can cancel a reservation but it is not possible to get the special rate once the block is lifted. Let me know if you all have had any problems when reserving rooms.
2) Don't forget to call the hotel shuttle before you depart. Complimentary shuttle to and from the Baton Rouge Airport is available upon request. Contact the hotel's transportation coordinator at (225) 930-0150.
3) All lifter's will get a coach's pass for the session they you lift in. A weekend spectator pass will be $25.00. Daily admission will be $10.00. There will be team awards. Team Entry fees will be $50.00 per team entered. All lifters will receive a free t-shirt and lifter's pass when they arrive. I am also working on a powerpoint presentation that will roll through all of the lifters bio's that were posted on the Women's Nationals Web Site.
4) Entry forms must be post marked by January 19. No refunds and a late fee will be charged for those received after the 19th.
USPF News:
A new entry form has been released for the Binion's World Series of Powerlifting that will allow lifters to submit card numbers from any federation. And by entering this meet, lifters will automatically beome members of the USPF, compliments of the WSOP. This is an effort on the part of the promoter to make this a "unity" meet. This meet is scheduled to held on March 24 at Binion's Gambling Hall & Hotel, Los Vegas, NV.
Steve Denison announced; "The USPF Senior, Junior, Submaster, and Master Nationals for Powerlifting and Bench/Deadlift will be held Aug 11-12 at Binions Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Entry form and other information will be forthcoming. Stay tuned."
