Liane Lifts Gold, Jason-Bronze

Like Wednesday, three sessions were scheduled for Thursday with the Men’s 90 kg Weight Class lifting in the first session. The U.S.’s Gregory Jones was disqualified. It is not known at this time why he was disqualified, but Poland’s Michal Tatarynowicz finished third earning team Poland another 8 points and increasing their lead over second place team U.S.

The women lifted in the second session. Team U.S. and team Chinese Taipei, who currently ranked 1st and 2nd in team points had no lifters representing their nations in the 75 kg class while 3rd place team Norway had lifters finish 1st and 2nd. In the Women’s 82.5 kg class, the U.S.’s Liane Blyn finished 1st with a 225 kg squat, 130 bench and a 205 deadlift which added up to a 560 kg total. Norway’s Heidi Arnesen Hille finished second with a 532.5 kg total.

The Men’s 100 kg class lifted in the third and final session of the day with Poland’s Michal Wilk finishing 1st with a 945 kg, 2nd place went to Andreas Hjelmtveit of Norway with a 912.5 kg total and the U.S.’s Jason Beck finished 3rd with a 910.0 kg total. The battle for second place came down to the deadlift where Jason held a 27.5 kg lead in the sub-total. Andreas pulled 353.5 to Jason’s 322.5 taking the silver medal by 2.5 kg.
