News Letter 10/23/06
The meet was well run and the organizers provided a great venue and setting for the lifters that was worthy of being labeled as a first class amateur world championship. It reflects the experience and dedication to the lifters that the folks at Virginia Powerlifting Federation, Inc. (VPA), have in promoting and running top level meets. Congratulations to the VPA and lifters who competed.
There were some Maryland lifters who competed. On Friday, Glen Murphy (Ridgley), Chico Del Rosario (Lexington Park), Tommy Williams (Accokeek) Rich Hutchison (Derwood) and Michael Jones (Hyattsville) took to the platform. On Saturday, it became difficult to identify other Maryland lifters as the home towns were not announced. I hope I will soon be able to note others who lifted along with the final results.
It was awesome to see the number of raw lifters!
For those following the on-going saga of the suspension of Brian Siders , Garry Holmen of the Alberta Powerlifting Union (APU) has released an e-mail in which Norbert Wallauch, President-IPF sent to Brian authorizing Brian to lift in the USPF Strength Challenge that was competed last August in West Virginia. Efforts continue to build a case in support of Brian’s reinstatement in hopes that he will be allowed to compete in the upcoming World Championships in Stavenger, Norway.
